Light Tackle & Flyfishing

Striped bass & bluefish are the primary targets for the light tackle enthusiast.  Whether you choose to fish with my tackle, lures, & flies or yours, or a combination is your choice.

For flyfishing the top rod of choice is an 8 weight with floating, intermediate sink, & full sinking line options available.  On board I also carry a 5 & 10 weight to be used in certain circumstances for delicate work in the estuaries or added muscle when fishing offshore in strong wind conditions.  Fly selections are a combination of my own ties and commercially bought with some of my favorite and most popular proven patterns of Lefty’s Deceivers, Whistlers, Seaducers, Clouser Minnows, Surf Candies, Sliders, & Poppers, etc. along with a newer pattern recently discovered called the “Barry’s Eyelash” fly that does extremely well with finicky fish.

For light tackle, I prefer medium action 6 to 7 foot spinning rods with 8 to 12 lb. test line that are capable of casting a variety of different jigs & plugs weighted up to 1 ounce or when conditions mandate, trolling medium sized swimming plugs.  Light freshwater baitcasting bass gear is also effective.  From surface poppers and sliders to lead head jigs and soft swimmers to trolling rigs, I use artificials for whatever is necessary to get fish to the boat.  Only sometimes do I cheat with a tube & worm !

Whether casting flies along the marsh estuary cut banks or trolling plugs along the coastline of the Atlantic Ocean, a light tackle fishing trip is always a lot of fun !

The Northshore of Massachusetts is a photographers dream for opportunities to capture the outdoor environment and the essence of quintessential New England.  From the prisitine sugar white sands and dunes of Cranes Beach and other local beaches to the remote backwater saltmarsh estuaries of the “Great Marsh”, your camera will be clicking from the time you arrive at dockside to the minute you leave.  Whether you are a professional photographer with a unique assignment or just shooting for your stock, or an amateur just looking to capture that perfect frame-able photo or a series of images for your personal collection, Captain Mark’s guided charter boat service will customize your trip to make sure you capture the desired image or images you are looking for.

Low light situations are often best to capture the “magic” of this region and all trips are customized to your specifications.  Dawn and Dusk are most popular for dramatic light situations and sunrise and sunset pictorials.  “Luna” is equipped so that she can easily be brought ashore along the vast beach shorelines and in some of the more intimate backwater marshes.  This allows the photographer to get off the boat and explore some unreachable by land surroundings for unique photo opportunities while also providing the option of setting up a tripod for low light slow shutter speed shooting.

The incredible pallet of colors offered by the marsh, waters and sands will delight from May through October.

Whenever you choose to shoot, I promise you will get spectacular photos you will be quite pleased with !
